Topic for task 2 general training: Computers and modems have make it possible for office workers to do much of their work from home instead of working in offices every day. Working from home should be encouraged as it is good for workers and employers. Do you agree or disagree?
It is conspicuous that technology has made world a smaller place. Distance and location doesn’t hinder communication; there is virtually no difference whether an employee is working from office premises or from the comforts of their home. Working from home has its own merits for the employers in terms of cost and to employees as they can balance their life better. On the contrary it has various demerits associated with it hence I am against this.
First and foremost, home doesn’t provide an environment where a person can completely dedicate himself to the work. There are lot of work going in parallel which affects the productivity. Moreover, setting up the office infrastructure at home is also an expensive choice. It results in poor efficiency of an employee and affects the employer as well. To add to this, there are various work which requires face to face interaction which is not possible while working from home.
Secondly, even if a person is dedicated to his job there is a misconception among the higher management officials that an employee is working from home is actually working for their home. Furthermore, the bonding between bosses and their sub-ordinates doesn’t get strengthened if they don’t meet. It is irrefutable that out of sight is generally out of mind. If an employee is not attending office for a long time people specially their bosses tends to forget them which has bad consequences during appraisal cycles. In the nutshell, employees suffer when they choose this option.
To recapitulate, there are various factors which hinders the productivity, efficiency and appraisal of an employee when they choose work from home. In my opinion, people should not opt for work from home for a longer duration. It can be a choice once in a while to create a proper balance between their professional and personal lives.
