The modern society has witnessed a giant leaps in the field of technology, especially computers and the Internet, which have triggered far-reaching changes in education. Some people think they both play a big influence over the children’s study whereas some others still value the vitally indispensable role of teachers in schools. Both views and my opinion are here to stay during the scope of my essay.
To begin with, it is undeniable that in the modern information age, computers and the Internet do greatly assist students’ study process in a myriad of different ways. First of all, a huge source of information available on the Internet makes it way into the up-to-date learning style. As far as I am concerned, the university students are expected to be autonomous learners far more than High School, requiring them to conduct numerous research. As a consequence, with the assist of searching tools, typically Google, students can complete their tasks with a flow of achievements. In addition, it is well acknowledged that a host of online courses instructed via cyber- talk or video lessons by many nationally and internationally renowned professors are at present available on the Internet. These courses are deemed as vitally useful supplement to the knowledge accumulated during schooling. Last but not least, with the help of the Internet, the interaction between teachers and students besides learning time is no longer troublesome. It has become old-fashioned style of thinking that these two-sided conversation is only conducted inside classroom.
Conversely, enthusiasts of effective way of learning with teachers in schools support it for several reasons. First and foremost, it is uncontrolled huge source of information exposed to the Internet users that give rise to parents’ doubts on its effectiveness. They believe that their children are still too young to discriminate between sources; therefore, knowledge from teachers is far more precise and reliable. Moreover, the teachers have all the experience in step-by-step guiding their students in order for them to achieve the setting goals. Finally, it is a common norm that learning in schools with the accompany of classmates contributes to students’ effective learning. Group work, peer discussion and evaluation all prove their potential impacts on learners’ progress.
In conclusion, every learning method has its own pros and cons and so do the aforementioned learning styles; therefore, I believe that a combination of both ways would bring about the best-ever study results.
