There is a popular believe that pupils from higher educational institutions should be encouraged to learn in their favorite subjects. On the other hand, others claim that curriculum should contain only those subjects that are most likely to be helpful in the future. In my perspective, I totally agree with the first view that encourages young learners to specialize in their preferred domains.

Letting the students choose their study program brings several benefits. On an individual level, this leads to more enthusiasm for learning. In other words, students tend to be more interested and more passionate when studying in their favorite fields, which promotes a more efficient process of learning. For example, during my studies, those who were passionate about their chosen fields were the most effective colleagues. Without a certain degree of interest in their courses, it is almost impossible for someone to perform in their study. Finally, from an economic perspective, more committed and efficient future employees could bring more money for the employers.

On the other hand, there are those that believe the process of learning should be only based on science and technology related subjects, such as engineering or nanotechnology. In other words, they think that the students’ future jobs would be greatly unapproachable for those who do not have knowledge about science and technology in more depth. Although students should have skills and abilities that are most likely to be useful in the future, I am sure that restricting the curriculum only on these subjects will only lead to their frustration, while encouraging them to abandon their courses. For instance, almost all of my colleagues who have chosen their university lectures at their parents’ recommendation abandoned their studies.

In conclusion, I fully support studying your preferred subjects when enrolling for a higher education course.
