More and more students are choosing to study at colleges and universities in foreign countries.
Do the benefits of studying abroad outweigh the drawbacks?
Over the past few years, the number of students choosing to study abroad has seen a rapid increase, with more and more people joining universities and colleges abroad every year. I believe that the advantages of studying in foreign countries outweigh the drawbacks.
The disadvantage of studying abroad is that it can be very costly. It can be unaffordable for many students as there is a lot of expenses to be covered, ranging from university fees and accommodation to daily expenses like food and transport. At home, most of these expenses are usually avoidable as most university students would still be living with their parents, which means they don’t have to pay for accommodation or food.
Despite this, I believe that there is a significant number of things a student can benefit from when they live and study abroad. Firstly, living abroad means that the student will have to be away from family, which means they have to learn how to be independent and learn how to do things on their own. When students experience this transition from having everything is provided to them and handed on a silver plate, to having to work for everything and letting go of their dependency on others, they can build their confidence, personality and even learn more things about themselves.
Another benefit would be meeting new people and making new friends. Because the student will live away from their old friends, they would be forced to make new ones. Having friends abroad will help them learn more about different cultures and traditions, expanding their connections and even introducing their own culture to others, which will help them be more proud of who they are.
In conclusion, although education abroad can be costly, the positive attributes that come from the student’s experience abroad can make that money worth it. The experience of living and studying in a different country can shape a person and build them in unimaginable ways, which is why many choose to study abroad today despite the cost.
