TASK 2 : Sone exprts believe that it is better for children to begin learning a foreign languague at primary school rather than secondary school. Do the advantages of this outweigh the disadvantages?
People often question of whether students should learn a new language at a primary school or at secondary school. While some would think that there are some clear disadvantages of this trend, I firmly contend that the benefits are more significant to consider.
There is common belief that the most drawback of teaching a foreign language at primary school is that students may have stress due to the overload exercises and homework that they must finish. Advocates of this view believe that the main reason is the pupil’s ability to balance the time spending for each class, which leaves them relative no time for other activities, such as doing exercises compared to that of secondary students. Therefore, students at elementary level who are required to learn language class would have lower academic performances because of higher level of stress.
However, I am strong of the opinion that the golden age for students learning a foreign language is at primary school. The key reason is that children at these ages tend to have better memorize ability, which is crucial for learning new words and grammar. To illustrate, students learn new concepts and remember lessons faster than other since they are stimulated through playing more games and quiz related to new language. In addition, such a learning method could encourage students to learn bilanguage effectively by integrating the two curriculums. For example, teachers teach basic calculation in both English and Vietnam, which may help students be more exciting to learn.
In conclusion, people may have different perspectives regarding the best time for learning a new language. From my own point of view, learning at primary schools would be associated with more benefits, far outweighing its shortcomings.
