Some People say that the only reason for learning a new language is to travel or to work. others say that these are not the only reasons for learning a new language. Discuss bot sides and give your own opinion
MY Response
Some people argue that learning a new language is only important because it opens up job and travel opportunities; while other do not accede with the same and say that these are not the only incentives for learning another language. In my opinion, the former reason for learning a foreign language is an unfair generalization of causes for going on this endeavor.
Admittedly, knowing a foreign language can boost up the travel and job opportunities. Since the world has become a global village, companies are hunting for individuals who are multilingual. Clearly, if someone knows any foreign language he/she can not only get jobs that are restricted to native people of the host country, but you can also visit new places which can be lifetime adventure. multinational companies who cannot hire a translator, look for a multilingual person. Moreover, a lot of countries attract innumerable tourists; resultantly, there is abundance of job opportunities for people understanding multiple languages.
On the other hand, learning a foreign language can reward you in many ways other than just obtaining a job or traveling. Research shows that knowing and learning more than one languages can increase cognitive abilities of people, and in return people stay healthy. Additionally, in order to appreciate any culture i.e. it’s music, art and mores, knowing their native language is a must; because, language and culture are the two sides of the same coin. One more benefit could be making lifelong friendships across the culture. These are but just a few reasons to learn a new language.
On sum, while learning a foreign language can open up the doors for new jobs and travels; yet, in my opinion benefits of learning an exotic language are outstretched to the horizon. In order to conclude, it can be said that being a speaker of multiple languages is very beneficial in terms of personal, social and socio-economic.
