A government’s role is only to provide defence capability and urban infrastructure (roads, water supplies, etc.). All other services (education, health, social security) should be provided by private groups or individuals in the community.
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Answer:
It is often argued whether the role of a government should or should not be limited only to national defence and infrastructure development for urbanization. There are a bunch of people who often argue that the other services such as health, education, and social security should be taken care by non-governmental private organisations or people in a society. In my opinion, no organisation or individual can function without support from government in an isolation. This essay will describe the reasons why I have such opinion.

On the one hand, many people believe that government should only be focused in crucial activities with high priorities. This means that any governmental administration should not waste time in petty activities and concentrate fully in strategically important matters concerning security and urban development. If any government is not overloaded, there will be an inevitable success and development in what so ever project it undertakes. For instance, India has taken a rapid accelerating pace of growth following the legislation that allowed private organisations to get involved in service sector such as communication and transportation, thus allowing the government to focus on defence, space exploration, and urbanization.

However, on the other hand, it is merely impossible for private groups or people to handle the huge national service sectors in isolation without support of government. Firstly, absence of any regulatory board under governmental supervision would create different standards and qualities of service which will create a haphazard situation. In addition, services such as education, health, and social security require a huge fund for proper management. Thus, private firms might not be able to finance their requirements forcing the public to compromise with the standard of the services.

In conclusion, it is a good idea to allow private institutes to take charge of public service system, however, without intervention and involvement of government, it might lead to a disoriented management. Thus, it s suggested that there be a public private partnership model to handle the service oriented organisations.
