Topic: Sending criminals to prison is not the best method of dealing with them. Education and job training are better ways to help them. Do you agree or disagree?
The increasing number of criminals has raised some doubt about the effectiveness of imprisonment. Therefore, some agrue that education and job training should be provided to the offenders to mitigate the problems. Personally, I strongly believe although imprisonment proves successful, education and job training might be better.
Viewed from every angle, it is not overstated to claim that prison sentence satisfies the requirements both of retribution and deterrence. Prisoners are widely believed to take their responsibility for their terrible actions, thus detention is deemed as strict punishment for their crime. Furthermore, prison indisputably acts as a deterrent for both would – be offenders and persistent ones. However, it is irrefutable that imprisonment arouses their sense of resent. Correspondingly, it would prevent them from being good citizens, which is a negative impact.
However, education and job training ia also undeniably worth serious consideration. Firstly, education and job training afford offenders chances of rehabilitation. It is clear that primary causes of crime are poverty, illiteracy and unemployment. Providing job training would help them earn a living after being released, and they would no longer have motivation to re-offend.Similarly, well-educated person are able to distinguish the right and wrong, thus having no reason to break the law or lead a life of crime. In addition, insteading of allocating a substantial part of state budgets for construction and management of prisons, government can capitalize on this amount of money to invest in education and job training for criminals, which is far more meaningful.
In conclusion, government should afford education and vocational training for criminals rather than send them to prison
