question: Every year several languages die out. Some people think that this is not important because life will be easier if there are fewer languages in the world. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion?
My essay:
Languages have always been the main aspect of different cultures. Nowadays, people are more practical and tend to learn international languages in order to interact with other people worldwide. As a consequence, the number of spoken languages is becoming fewer. Some people believe that will ease our lives. However, this perspective is not suitable from cultural and social points.
Firstly, maintaining different numbers of languages has many cultural benefits. Language is considered to be the most unique component of any culture. When the language escapes, many special aspects and details of a culture will become extinct. It can be clearly noticed that each language has many words that can not be translated effectively to any other language. These words have special meanings that can not be revealed by any similar word in another language. Losing a language leads to narrowed cultural horizons of everyone.
Secondly, there are many special pros that can be attained by keeping the variety of languages. each society has its own traditions and habits that have been preserved by means of language as the main method of interaction between different generations. Losing the language leads to disintegration of the related society. Afterwards, members are segregated and forced to integrate with another new society with a new different language and different habits. This might cause a shock for such people.
In conclusion, maintaining the variety of languages has many benefits that outweigh the belief that getting rid of such languages can ease our lives worlwide.
