Government should spend money on railways rather than roads?

To what extend to you agree or disagree?

There is some debate whether the authorities should prioritize their investments on railways system or roads infrastructure. My own view is that governments should allocate a fair budget on both modes of transport, since they provide great benefits in our society.

On the one hand, the progress on railways would have less detrimental effect on environment pollution. In fact, the amount of carbon dioxide emitted by trains is lower compared to the other modes of transport,  therefore this way of transportation should draw more attention for investments. Clearly, if more individuals increase the use of trains especially in densely populated areas, the quality of air would be maintained at acceptable levels. Moreover, by developing railways the overall economy of various countries would experience significant progress.  Due to the fact that trains have huge capacity, they are able to transport considerable amount of goods and products at the same time. As a result, the profit that different companies or agencies make would be enhanced by choosing  this modes of transport to ran their own business.

On the other hand, traveling by private cars can have numerous advantages such as convenience and time saving.  In other ward, individuals do not have to share their journey with other people and it is direct to precise destination. In addition, by improving roads infrastructure, not only the incidence of accidents would decrease, but the rush hours could also be avoid.  To illustrate, the average time that employees spend to get to their work varies between 45 to 60 minutes.  This figure  can  be reduced by careful planning and effective investment on road system.

In conclusion, the governments face difficult decisions on the distribution of funds in order to develop transportation.  However, I believe that a balanced focus on trains advancements and road progress  would generate great  potential on social and economical  level.
