More and more people prefer to read e-books rather than paper books. What are the reasons for this? What problems can this cause for libraries?

Nowadays, more and more people prefer reading electronic books to using hard copies of them. Undoubtedly, it has an impact on libraries. In this essay I am going to find reasons for this tendency and explain some problems resulting from it.
At the age of modern technologies, there is no surprise that people tend to use gadgets wherever they can. Of course, it has deprioritized schoolbooks, printed manuals and ordinary books. It has become easier to download an electronic script of a poem, for example, and enjoy reading it using an E-book or just a mobile phone. They are more portable than a book or a magazine, besides it is much cheaper to download, than to buy. Additionally, e-books do not need much space on shelves to store, unlike paper ones, and provide a big variety of options. For example, people can read foreign literature in the original.
However, the increasing number of reading devices has a big disadvantage. A lot of libraries are being short of customers and a huge number of once so desired books are now being abandoned. At the same time, a lot of employees are being laid-off or unemployed. Usually, these are people nearing the retirement age or pensioners who are forced to leave their “lofty perch” and now feel useless.
This tendency being irreversible, there is still some hope that the remaining groups of old-fashioned bookworms – people who still like the traditional paper copies will be able to keep the libraries going, as well as some other educational activities performed there.
To recap, the world of electronic devices has changed our reading habits as well as our mentality in general. There is no point in confronting the tendency or resisting the changes, however we still have to honor our past and preserve the traditional paper books as part of our cultural heritage.
