Question: Development in technology has brought various environmental problems. Some believe that people need to live simpler lives to solves environmental problems. Other, however, believe technology is the way to solve these problems.
Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
It is true that the development in technology causes serious environmental degradation. While many people suppose that having simpler lives is the only solution, I would argue that technological advances can provide a golden opportunity to deal with these environmental problems.
On the one hand, there are a variety of reasons why people believe living simply have positive impacts on the environment. Firstly, cutting the proportion of industrial products have great influences on reducing the factory emission. For example, if all countries in over the world can decrease their energy consumption, this will decline the emission of greenhouse gasses. Secondly, people who choose to live simply have a tendency to use the eco-friendly product and have lower demand for energy. As a result, this decision will contribute to environmental protection.
On the other hand, I believe that the development of technology can have a significant impact to alleviate environmental problems. Firstly, because of those improvements, factories can install waste treatment systems instead of discharge chemical wastes into rivers and water pollution will be controlled. Secondly, technology can also help to create electricity by using renewable resources such as solar, wind and water power. Therefore, this will provide the efficient method to reduce CO2 emission to an acceptable level, which is necessary to fight climate change.
In conclusion, although both decisions are advantageous in their own ways, it seems to me that technology improvement should take responsibility for environmental issues.
